Laucian Icebrooke's Back Story
Laucian Icebrooke, born in the fall of a brothel, is a half-elf with a troubled past and a questionable moral compass. Born into a family of tavern owners, Laucian grew up immersed in the colorful world of hospitality and grit. His father, Eirik, a hypochondriac, provided little emotional support, while his mother, Ithronel, a shrewd tavern owner, instilled in him a strong sense of self-reliance and resourcefulness.
Growing up in a tavern owned by his mother, Laucian was exposed to the gritty realities of life from an early age, from his father, a distrust for authority, and a deep-seated fear of illness.
Childhood events took a sinister turn when Laucian was cursed by an old witch, transforming him into a werebat. Lycanthropy became his secret burden, a constant reminder of the tragedy that had befallen him.
In his adolescent years, Laucian was falsely accused of a crime and sentenced to death. However, fortune intervened when he was rescued by a group of notorious outlaws. As a reward for his liberation, Laucian was offered a deal: join the Thieves guild and help them amass wealth. He readily accepted, propelled by his insatiable appetite for material possessions. One fateful heist in Neverwinter, Laucian's partners betrayed him, leaving him with nothing but a hefty price on his head and a lifelong distrust for others.
A second curse from the vengeful witch added insult to injury, bringing tragedy upon Laucian. He was embroiled in war due to his magic, leading to two additional tragic events: the death of his beloved pet, Veer, and the demise of his closest friend, Ja'son.
Despite his setbacks, Laucian's spirit remained unbroken. He apprenticed as a merchant in a pawnshop, honing his skills as a manipulator and opportunist. His passion for art led him to pursue sculpting and painting, leaving behind a testament to his resilience and creativity.
Apprenticeship in a pawnshop honed his charisma and resourcefulness, ultimately leading him to pursue his passion for philosophy. As a philosopher, Laucian embraced wisdom and material abundance, though his distrustful nature remained intact.
Though widely regarded as wise, he is also known for his materialistic nature and unwavering suspicion of others. His romantic nature, though fiery, often led him astray, and his amoral outlook left many questioning his moral boundaries.
